CTSP Director Bruce Lawlor named to Pictometry board
Retired Maj. Gen. Bruce M. Lawlor, director of the Center for Technology, Security, and Policy (CTSP) at Virginia Tech, has been appointed to the board of directors of Pictometry International Corp., a leading provider of geo-referenced, aerial image libraries and related software headquartered in Rochester, NY.
Pictometry is a proprietary imaging process that captures geo-referenced, high-resolution oblique (at an angle, producing a 3-D like view) and orthogonal (straight down) Intelligent Images -- within which structures and land features can be measured -- and customizes these technologies for government and commercial applications that help prepare for and respond to homeland security threats.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech in 2008, Lawlor served as senior director for Protection and Prevention for the White House Homeland Security Council and was one of five senior White House staff members who wrote the plan to create the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He was also a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and the first Commanding General for the Department of Defense Joint Task Force-Civil Support. He has a doctorate degree in engineering management, a juris doctor degree in law, and a master's degree in national security studies. Additionally, he is a Harvard National Security Fellow, a former instructor at the U.S. Army War College, and is a member of the Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida Bar Associations.
“General Lawlor has dedicated his life to the security of our country and will be a valuable addition to our board as we grow our federal business,”said Richard M. Hurwitz, chairman of the Pictometry board of directors.
