Student Information

The National Capital Region Graduate Student Services Office (GSSO), located at the Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church, is a satellite office of the Graduate School on the main campus in Blacksburg and handles academic and administrative matters, such as Graduate Education Week, student workshops, student medical insurance, in-state or out-of-state classification, and changing departments or graduate programs in the National Capital Region.

The Graduate School serves as a coordinating and governing body to all the Virginia Tech graduate programs and their students. Policies and procedures offer guidelines on progressing through an academic program. Please consult with individual graduate programs for application deadlines, as these deadlines vary considerably depending on your program of interest.


New Graduate Student Orientation , Sat., 8/23/14, 8:30 a.m. Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church, Room 214
Meet Virginia Tech Vice President and Graduate School Dean Karen P. DePauw, and Kenneth H. Wong, Associate Dean for Graduate Education in the National Capital Region. Learn about the latest in graduate education and share your perspectives in a casual setting. Graduate Student Services representatives will be introduced. Graduate Student Assembly representatives, the Graduate Student Representative to the VT Board of Visitors, the Graduate Student Ombudsperson, and the Chief Justice will present information. Debbie Cash, Library Coordinator, will discuss Library resources vital to your studies and research. Refreshments will be served. Sessions will be held on medical insurance for domestic and international students.
